What’s in the eighties?

In each period of time things happen, something lasts forever, something gone. If you look back in 1980s when you were young, being a kid didn’t have to take much responsibility in your life just studied and played, which popular games would you think of. It couldn’t be anything but Pac-Man, the most famous arcade video game of all time, which came from the idea of Toru Iwatani when he was eating a pizza. Pac-Man was first released in Japan on May 22, 1980 and last year was it’s 30th anniversary.

In the world of art, Keith Haring, the American artist who lived from 1958 to 1990, was one of the well-known pop art icon. His subway chalk drawings between 1980-1985 were the familiar images to New York commuters, and became a “laboratory” for working out his ideas and experimenting with his simple lines. He achieved international recognition and participated numerous group and solo exhibitions between 1980 and 1989. Keith Haring died 21 years ago but his art works were still exhibited at the museums around the world.

This month Nop selects Pac-Man and two drawings of Keith Haring to make the messenger bags for friends who have good childhood memories with Pac-Man and friends who love Keith’s works.
